چکیده

This paper treats limit cycles caused by friction. The goal has been to explain phenomena that have been observed experimentally in mechatronic systems. Experiments have shown that oscillations of qualitatively different types can be obtained simply by changing controller specifications. Stiction is important in some cases but not in others. Necessary conditions for limit cycle are given for the case where stiction is important. Conditions for local stability of the limit cycles are also presented. The results give insight into phenomena observed experimentally.

Energy-based Limit Cycle Compensation for Dynamically Balancing Wheeled Inverted Pendulum Machines

In this paper we present an energy-based algorithm to minimize limit cycles in dynamically balancing wheeled inverted pendulum (IP) machines. Because the algorithm is not based on absolute values of parameters, the performance is robust and accounts for mechanical reconfiguration and wear. The effects of phenomena such as drive-train friction, rolling friction, backlash and sensor bandwidth are...

Friction Estimation and Compensation for Steering Angle Control for Highly Automated Driving

This contribution presents a friction estimator for industrial purposes which identifies Coulomb friction in a steering system. The estimator only needs a few, usually known, steering system parameters. Friction occurs on almost every mechanical system and has a negative influence on high-precision position control. This is demonstrated on a steering angle controller for highly automated drivin...

Friction Induced Limit Cycling: Hunting R.H.A.Hensen

In this paper friction induced limit cycles are predicted for a simple motion system of a single motor-driven inertia subjected to friction and a PID-controlled regulator task. The two friction models used, i.e., (i) the dynamic LuGre friction model and (ii) the static Switch friction model, are compared with respect to the so-called hunting phenomenon. Analysis tools originating from the field...

The Oscillations Killer: a Mechanism to Eliminate Undesired Limit Cycles in Nonlinear Systems

In this paper, we present a new mechanism, named the oscillation killer (OSKIL), intended for extinguish limit cycles that may occur as a consequence of: unexpected external disturbances, interactions with the environment, changes in systems set-points and physical parameters, etc. Examples rate from controlled systems with friction, to electrical networks with varying loads and impedances. The...
